JV game in Canoe ends in tie

Nate Smith was the leader for the Escambia Academy Cougars junior varsity in their match up against Pensacola Chrisian Academy Warriors Thursday in Canoe.
Smith hit 1-for-3 in the contest ripping a two-RBI triple to help the Cougars in the contest that ended in an unusual 6-6 tie.
The Cougars and Warriors traded the lead twice with Escambia Academy holding the lead 4-3 after two innings, but Pensacola Christian would take the lead in the top of the third 6-4.
Escambia Academy responded to tie the game at 6 in the final inning of the game, but could not muster up a winning run, as the game ended in the tie.
For the Cougars, Brett Gorum hit 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Trey McGhee and Tadd Wall each went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Josh Fields rounded out the scoring offense for the Cougars going 1-for-1 with an RBI. Other Cougars to record hits were H.T. Fountain (1-for-2, 2B), Kevin Gumapac (1-for-1, R) and Xan McGhee (1-for-3, R).
On the mound, Gorum relieved McGhee in the top of the third striking out five Warriors, while giving up no runs in 2 2/3 innings of work.
The Cougars next game will be Tuesday on the road against Jackson Academy. The game begins at 4:30 p.m.
