Jackson Armstrong
ATMORE – Mr. Jackson Armstrong, 57, of Atmore died Friday, March 16, 2007 at Springhill Memorial Hospital in Mobile. Christian Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Cecilia Leigh Fuqua
TELFORD, TENN. – Ms. Cecilia Leigh Fuqua, 26, passed away on Friday, March 9, 2007 in Johnson City, Tenn.
Ms. Fuqua was a native of East Brewton, a resident of Telford, Tenn., for the past two years. Preceded in death by her father, Leroy Fuqua, Jr. and grandfather, Leroy Fuqua, Sr.
Survivors include: her mother, Polly Bell Fuqua of East Brewton; son Blaketon Johnson of Brewton; daughter, Aireanna Mystique Fuqua of Telford, Tenn.; brother, John Phillip Fuqua of Novinger, Mo.; grandparents, William Kilby and Edna Bell of Flomaton; Evelyn Jeanette Fuqua of Brewton; a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 16, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Parkerson officiating.
Burial followed at Fuqua Haveard Cemetery.
Visitation was held Friday, March 16, 2007 from noon until funeral time.
Pallbearers were Gary Phillips, Jamie O'Guynn, Jeff Boles, Matthew Bell, Bo Johnson and Greg Miller.
Honorary pallbearer was Garrett Hammac.
Charles Frederick Hayles Sr.
ATMORE – Mr. Charles Frederick Hayles Sr., 84, of Atmore passed away on Thursday, March 15, 2007 in his home in Atmore. He was a life-long resident who graduated from Escambia County High School, served as a glider pilot in the Army Air Forces during WWII, was a long-time Mason and Shriner, and was a retiree of Monsanto. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Atmore, and was loved by all his family, friends and neighbors.
Mr. Hayles was preceded in death by his parents, John Calvin and Annie McNeil Hayles; and his brother and sister-in-law, John Calvin Hayles, Jr., and Dorothy Hayles.
Mr. Hayles is survived by his wife of 57 years, Luvenia "Sang" Hayles of Atmore; his son, Charles F. Hayles, Jr. of Sacramento, Calif.; and his daughter and son-in-law, Gena and Keith Rudge of Alpharetta, Ga.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Friday, March 16 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Funeral services were held at First Baptist Church in Atmore on Saturday, March 17, at 10 a.m. followed by interment at Oak Hill Cemetery. Pastor Arnold E. Hendrix, Jr. of the First Baptist Church officiated. Active pallbearers were Charles E. Hayles, Jon-El Sprinkle, Walter Drake, Jason Fillmore, Jeffery Fillmore and Donald Ray Weaver. Honorary pallbearers were the Senior Adult Sunday School Department of the First Baptist Church.

Derick Allen Hughes
MOBILE – Derick Allen Hughes, 58, of Mobile died Thursday, March 15, 2007 in Mobile. He was director of transportation with Autry Greer &Sons, born in Mobile on Dec. 2, 1948 to Collie Ray and Mary Murphy Hughes.
Hughes' mother, Mary Murphy Hughes, preceded him in death.
Survivors include, his father, Collie Ray Hughes of Cantonment, Fla.; one son, Steven Ray Hughes and wife, Michelle of Hollywood, Fla.; two daughters, Mary Walker and husband, Todd of Mobile and Susie McCory and husband Micheal of Bay Minette; two brothers, Robert Ray Hughes of Lottie and Marcus Tracy Hughes of Cantonment, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Ashleigh Strickland, Drake Strickland, Noel McCory, Stephen Hughes, Laura Hughes, Kimber Walker and Emma Walker and one great grandchhild, Ayden Quinn.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 18, 2007 from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Enon Baptist Cemetery in Enon. Family and friends received guests from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Emmitt R. McDonald
ATMORE – Mr. Emmitt R. McDonald, 80, of Atmore died Monday, March 12, 2007 at his residence. He was a retired Metal Smith with the Pensacola Naval Air Station, born in Frisco City on May 15, 1926 to the late John Clyde and Icy Irene Stacey McDonald.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou McDonald.
Survivors are: one son, Charles "Doodle" McDonald and wife, Charlotte of Atmore; one sister, Joyce Russell of Oak Grove, Fla.; two grandchildren, Mark McDonald of Atmore, and Jason McDonald and wife, Tracy of Pensacola, Fla.; four great-grandchildren, Alex McDonald, Aaron McDonald, Bryant McDonald, and Jackson McDonald.
Services were Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at 10 a.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home chapel with Bro. Jimmy Dukes officiating. Interment followed in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Atmore.
Family received friends Tuesday evening, March 13, 2007 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

Pallbearers were Ron Moxness, David Lambert, Gilbert Gorum, Andrew Gorum, Jr., Butch Black and Scotty Baker.
Billy Ray Smith
ROCKY HILL – Mr. Billy Ray Smith, 72, passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2007 in Mobile.
Mr. Smith was a native of Rocky Hill, a resident of Rocky Hill for most of his life. He attended the Rocky Hill Baptist Church. Mr. Smith was a US Navy retiree of 21 years. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. He was a Safety Director for Brown and Root, B E &K, Parsons- Whitmore. Preceded in death by his father, Comer Smith.
Survivors include: his mother, Ruth Smith of Rocky Hill; his wife, Cora Smith of Rocky Hill; two sons, Mike Smith (Sharon) of Excel, Billy Smith of Rocky Hill; one daughter, Robin S. Durrance of Rocky Hill; two sisters, Betty De Fee of Rocky Hill, Debbie Bowen of Rocky Hill; a brother, J.C. Smith of Rocky Hill; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, March 15, 2007 at 10 p.m. at the Rocky Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Jesse Bohannon and the Rev. Pete Dunn officiating.
Burial followed at Rocky Hill Cemetery.
Visitation was held Wednesday, March 14, 2007 between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Danny Smith, B.J. Smith, Matthew Smith, Tricia Smith, Adam Smith and LyAnne Durrance.
Dot Williams
BREWTON – Mrs. Dot Williams, 85, of North Pine Street in Brewton, passed away peacefully in her sleep Tuesday morning March 13, 2007 at a local hospital after an extended illness. She was a native and former resident of Opp before moving to Brewton in 1948. She owned and operated the Brewton Flower Shop for 37 years and was one of the founders and owners of Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, Inc. with her husband, the late Pete Williams. Mrs. Williams was a member of the Alco Baptist Church and a member of The American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include: one son, Mike Williams (friend Mary Yoder) of Brewton; one brother, Oscar Pugh (Friend Stella Henderson) of Opp; two grandchildren, Kim (Jason) Madden of Brewton and Michael (Heather) Williams of Brewton; two great-granddaughters, Mary Paige Madden and Peyton Alexandrea Williams; three sister-in-laws, Doll Williams Bozeman of Opp, Nez Williams of Dade City, Fla., Flora Williams Moore of Tenn.
Preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Pete Williams and a son, Larry Gene Williams.
Visitation was held Thursday night March 15, 2007 from 5 until 9 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Brewton.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon March 16, 2007 at 3 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Jerry Caylor, Bro. Monroe Sasser, and Bro. Jack Fitts officiating. Interment followed at Union Cemetery in Brewton with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton directing.
James Allen Terry Sr.
IRVINGTON – James Allen Terry Sr., a native of Atmore, and a long time resident of Irvington died on Monday, March 12, 2007 at his Rogersville residence. Mr. Terry served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War and was a member of the VFW Post 49. He retired from Monsanto after 27 years of service. Mr. Terry is survived by four children; Barbara (Jerry) Davis of Rogersville, Allen (Karen) Terry, Jr. of Bay Minette, William (Swanee) Terry of Wilmer and Kathy (David) Lee of Theodore; two sisters, Margaret (Ray) Smith of Mobile, and Florence Ezell of Brewton; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 16, 2007 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home.
The family received friends at noon.
Interment was held in Serenity Memorial Gardens.
