The chance to show off with the skillet or let your taste buds indulge in delectable foods is coming up Aug. 11 at the annual Taste of the South event at Heritage Park.
According to Sharon Smith, Atmore Leadership class of 2004, her leadership group was given the opportunity to create this project and because of the success, they have done it every year since 2004.
"We got a lot of good feedback so we kept doing it," Smith said. "It's a nice thing to do, we have a good time doing it. Our class is really close and we all bonded. It's really a lot of fun."
The Taste of the South is the opportunity for restaurants, caterers, or anybody else with cooking skills to showcase their dishes. The winners will receive a plaque of honor to place in their home or place of business.
"It is kind of neat to go into a restaurant and see the Taste of the South plaque hanging," Smith said. "The contest is open to just about anybody."
Smith said usually there are between 12 to 15 vendors and the public votes for the winners of best-tasting and best-decorated dish.
Those who want to treat themselves to the taste testing pay $10 for a ticket that gives them the opportunity to taste five different food items.
There will also be live entertainment at the event.
For those interested in being a vendor, please contact the Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce at 368-3305.
