Carolyn S. Lassitter
ATMORE – Mrs. Carolyn S. Lassitter, 71, lifelong resident of Atmore, died Monday, May 14, 2007 at her residence. She was retired from Vanity Fair Mills after 48 years as an examiner, a member of the first Assembly of God church in Atmore and a member of Lottie Vol. Fire Department, born in Monroe County to the late Willard C. and Ima Dobbins Smith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Comer Lee Lassitter; her parents, Willard C. Smith, Ima and Ernest Roberts, one brother, W.C. Smith and one sister, Luverne Davis.
Survivors are: two daughters, Kathy Allison and Gary Wood, Barbara Allison Hastings and husband, Williams Hastings, Jr., all of Atmore; one sister, Patsy Gulsby of Atmore; one sister-in-law, Ellen Smith of Stockbridge, Ga.,; eight grandchildren, Kenneth Wayne Kimbler II and wife, Lawanda, Christiana Singleton and husband, Keith, Nadia Carol Coker and husband, John David, Donald "D.J." Jowers and wife Rebecca, April Dorriety and husband James, Samantha Hastings, Bill Hastings and Brad Hastings; 19 great-grandchildren, Jammie Kimbler, Kenny Wayne Kimbler III, Whitney Kimbler, Britney Kimbler, Colton Singleton, Nathan Singleton, Gia Singleton, Felicia Singleton, Michael Coker, Noah Coker, Abby Coker, Ray Anne Jowers, Bryson Jowers, A.J. Jowers, Cassie Jowers, Alex Doles, Jim Dorriety, Makayla Dorriety and Gracie Dorriety; the Lassitter and Allison families and numerous loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services were held May 17, 2007 at 2 p.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Don Davis and the Rev. Joe Digmon officiating. Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Kenneth Wayne Kimbler II, Donald "DJ" Jowers, James Dorriety, John David Coker, Larry Smith, Barry Smith, Gerold Davis and Bob Courter. Honorary pallbearers were, Milford Lassitter, Earl Gunn, J.R. Allison, John Edward Davis, Buddy Mosley and Mike Johnson.
Family received friends Wednesday evening, May 16, 2007 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.
Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
Liston (Pete) Bartley
MOLINO, FLA. – Liston (Pete) Bartley, 70, of Molino, Fla., passed away Friday, May 18, 2007 at West Florida Hospital. Mr. Bartley was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and his twin brother, Frankie.
He is survived by his wife, Gwen Joiner Bartley of Molino, Fla.; one brother, Robert L. (Bob) Bartley of Walnut Hill, Fla.; one sister, Lelar Mae Frye of Century, Fla.; sister-in-law, Pansy Bartley of Sherman, Texas; many nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors; many special friends was Elbert and Dorothy Montgomery, Julie, Frank, Max Carmen, Mick, Mason, Cleo, Nancy, Donnie and Myrtle (Bobbie) Jernigan.
Visitation was held Monday, May 21, 2007 from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. Burial followed at Morgan Cemetery in Molino, Fla.
Atmore Memorial Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Charles Geary Godwin
MOBILE – Mr. Charles Geary Godwin, 54, of Mobile died Friday, May 18, 2007 in Mobile. He was a property manager, born in Escambia County on August 16, 1952 to the late Siddie and Claudia Parker Godwin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Judy Godwin Paul.
Survivors are: two brothers, Larry Godwin of Milton, Fla. and Terry Godwin of Mobile; one sister, Jan Jeter of Bratt, Fla.; numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held Monday, May 21, 2007 at 10 a.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Mike Grindle officiating.
Interment followed in Godwin Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Harold Martin, Pee Wee Powell, Gray Bryan, Britt Hendrix, Freddy Godwin and K.R. "Pres" McKinley.
Family received friends Sunday evening May 20, 2007 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Ella Fair Newton
FLOMATON – Mrs. Ella Fair Newton, 86, of Flomaton died on Friday, May 18, 2007 at her residence.
She was a native of Flomaton. Mrs. Newton was a housekeeper/ domestic. She was a member of the Damascus Baptist Church in Flomaton.
She is survived by: three daughters, Rosie Mae Gandy (James) of Decatur, Ga., Christin Byrd of Century, Fla., and Judy A. Davis of Decatur, Ga.; one sister, Reavie Watson of Columbus, Ga.; four children who perceives her in death, Ruby J. Hick, Mary Ella Hicks, Arthur Odoms, and Annie Odoms; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Monday 26, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Damascus Baptist Church in Flomaton with the Rev. Henry Hawkins, Pastor, officiating. Retirement of her remains will be in the Fannie/Damascus Cemetery.
Public viewing will be held on Friday from 2 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Chapel.
Her body will lie instate at the church one hour prior to funeral services.
Turner Funeral Chapel of Atmore is directing.

ATMORE – Ms. Irene Thomas of Atmore died May 21, 2007 at her residence. Services are to be announced by Turner Funeral Chapel.
