Gospel Extravaganza this Saturday night
Gospel Extravaganza 2007 will be held at 6 p.m. on June 2 at Escambia County High School. Advanced tickets are $10, $12 the day of the show and $15 for VIP seating.
Host will be Bernard Bishop and featured guests will be Redemption of Columbus. Special guests will be Visionaries, Jai Reed, Haley Murph, Lana Langford, JD Gospel Singers and the Gospel Travelers, Psalmist Felicia Bishop and the Deliverance Ministry Praise Team.
Presented by Pastor Bernard Bishop Ministries in association with Designer Cuts as an effort to bridge denominational and racial gaps.

School tax renewal vote next Tuesday
The renewal and continuation of the levy of the 1-mill countywide and 3-mill district tax for the Escambia County School System is on the ballot June 5 .
Atmore schools fall within the district 3 region and stand to lose nearly $300,000.
The renewal of the tax will allow schools to either add teaching units or work on capital maintenance of the school.

Mt. Olive Baptist revival ends May 31
Mt. Olive Baptist Church will hold a simultaneous revival May 29 through May 31.
Revival begins at 7:30 p.m. nightly.
Bonner staffer visiting today
A staff member from the office of U.S. Representative Jo Bonner (R-AL) will be making two stops in Escambia County May 30. The purpose of these visits is to meet with any constituents who may be experiencing difficulties with the federal government and who are seeking the congressman's assistance in resolving these problems.
The representative will be available at Brewton Town Hall between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. and at Atmore City Hall between 11:45 a.m. and 12:45 p.m.
Summer art classes offered at new gallery

Summer Reading begins June 1
The Atmore Public Library is having their Summer Reading Program each Friday beginning June 1 through July 6 from 10 a.m until 11 a.m. for children ages 5-12.
EWMS Booster Club yard sale June 2
The Ernest Ward Middle School Booster Club is holding a yard sale June 2 at the school from 6 a.m. until.
Perdido Junior High class reunion June 2
The Perdido Junior High School Class Reunion for students attending from the 1940s through the 1970s will be held on June 2 beginning at 2 p.m. at Perdido Elementary School on Co. Rd. 47 in Perdido. Dinner will be served at 5 p.m. at the Perdido Elementary School.
The Reunion Committee invites anyone from the 1930s to be our special guest.
This year we would like to try "potluck." For those of you that may not know what this means, you bring your favorite dish to share with us.
The Reunion Committee will furnish the following items: drinks, plates, cups, napkins, spoons, forks, knives, etc.
If you know of a classmate who deceased in the last two years, please contact the reunion committee at 251-937-3821.
Brooks Memorial VBS beginning June 4
Brooks Memorial Baptist Church will host Vacation Bible School-Game Day Central June 4-8 from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. from ages 4 thru 6th grade.
Registration will be held Saturday, June 2 at Atmore City Pool from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. All registered children will be allowed to swim.
First Assembly will offer Spanish in June
First Assembly of God will hold a Conversational Spanish Class on Monday nights at 5:30 starting June 18.
The class will go through July 23. Cost of the class is $12 for the book.
ECMS hosts Smart Links in June
Smart Links is a great way for children in grades K-8 to spend their summer. The program provides academic enrichment in a safe environment so that children are actively involved in the learning process throughout the year.
This year the program will begin June 4 and end June 29. Participates will be provided breakfast and lunch daily. The hours of operation are from 7:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday through Friday at Escambia County Middle School. Classes will include environmental science activities, arts and crafts, swimming, academic enrichment, recreational activities, cheer leading, music, sign language and pottery. There is a one time registration fee of $50 for the entire month's activities. Limited transportation will be provided daily.
Smart Links will also provide beginning Internet classes and beginning photography classes for the community on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. There is no charge for the evening classes and materials will be furnished.

Taste of the South scheduled for Aug. 11
The annual Taste of the South food festival will be held Aug. 11 at Heritage Park.

ECTS Class of 1967 reunion meeting June 9
The Escambia County Training School Class of 1967 reunion meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on June 9 at Vasaroy Johnson's home. Immediately after the meeting, a birthday party will be held to celebrate Vasaroy's birthday.

VFW dances held every Friday night
Friday Night Dances are held at the Atmore VFW Post Veterans of Foreign Wars Friday nights from 7:30 p.m. until 11 p.m. (daylight saving time) and from 6 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. (Central Standard Time).
Dances are open to Post members and the general public as long as participants are registered as a Post member's guest for a donation fee of $5 per person. The Post's band EXIT 54 provides country and rock and roll music.
On special occasions, dance participants enjoy "potluck" finger foods or a dinner.
The VFW is located at 206 West Ashley Street in Atmore.
