Drew Graham became an Eagle Scout for Troop 86 last Saturday in Birmingham.

Drew Graham became the newest Eagle Scout in Troop 86 in a ceremony held Sat., April 28, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Birmingham.

Drew, who is 15, is a student at Mt. Brook High School. He is the son of Paul and Evelyn Graham of Birmingham, and the grandson of John and Mary Helen Graham of Atmore.

For his Eagle project, Drew raised funds for and organized the installation of brick pavers for a section of the walkway in Veterans Park.

His maternal great-uncle, Jay Hawes of Texas, also an Eagle Scout, pinned Drew with his Eagle. As part of the ceremony, Drew’s father reflected upon his son’s path to earning his Eagle. He said Drew – who weighed only 27 ounces when he was born, and a whopping five pounds when he went home from the hospital four months later – has come a long way. Scouting, he said, has introduced his son to many of Alabama’s most beautiful spots for hiking and camping.

Drew became the 62nd scout in his troop’s history to earn his Eagle.

Also on hand for the ceremony were Drew’s paternal uncles, Scott Graham and John Graham Jr.; his siblings, Anne Cadman, Thomas and Sam; his maternal grandmother, Patricia Hawes-Hipps of Chelsea, Ala.; as well as numerous other family members and friends.
