Homeschool moms take night off

Homeschooled Kids &Co. held its final meeting of the school year Tuesday evening June 5. Twenty-nine ladies gathered at David's Catfish in Atmore for a Mom's Night Out. Members who served in various capacities during the 2006-2007 school year were recognized and the new leadership for the coming year was announced. Sherrie Hursh will replace Joanne Moore as the new President of HK&C; Phyllis Metzler will continue to function in a leadership role and Debbie Landis will take Michelle Peebles' place as treasurer.
During the dinner meeting outgoing president Joanne Moore recapped the events of the past year which included five field trips (the USS Alabama Battleship in Mobile, Turtle Point Science Center in Flomaton, a Pensacola ballet production, the University of West Florida archaeology department and the Gulf Breeze Zoo); six special presentations (Character First Project, Channel 5 Weather presentation, Pumpkin Patch story time, Teach Children to Save presentation by United Bank, Meet the Author event with JoAnn Martin and a Parent's Tennis clinic); three parties; four service projects (Food collection for AACCM, caroling at the nursing home and the dialysis center and Operation Christmas Child) achievement testing; four mom's support functions (two Mom's Night Outs, a Mom's Breakfast and a new member's brunch); Park Days and organized P.E. classes.
Homeschooled Kids &Co. is a support group for families that home educate in Escambia counties Alabama and Florida. Registration for the 2007-2008 school year is now underway.
