Residents urged to limit water use
The drought being felt across Alabama is effecting everyday activities for residents.
Due to the extremely dry conditions, the City of Atmore Utilities Board is encouraging customers to limit outside water use including watering lawns and washing cars.

Library continues summer activities
The Atmore Public Library summer reading program is coming to a halt with the last session July 6.
Friday, June 29, children will grab clues to freedom and will also have their Fourth of July Parade at 10 a.m. Children should be at the library at 10 a.m. and the parade will begin around 10:20 a.m.
Children will also bring their project this Friday. Participants have the option of making an "I Spy" board or writing a story that begins with the phrase, "It was a cold, dark rainy night at the library." If the participant chooses to write a story, it must be two pages long.
Super Sleuth Awards will be given July 3.

Mineola Baptist continues services
Homecoming will be held at Mineola Baptist Church Sunday, July 22 with worship service beginning at 10:30 a.m. The guest speaker will be Alben Gaston, Associate Pastor of Woodbridge Baptist Church in Mobile. Dinner on the grounds will be followed by a singing performance by Jimmy and Debbie Roberts and the Glory Road Quartet. Pastor, Marlon Brown, invites everyone to attend.
Revival will be held at Mineola Baptist Church July 23-27 with services beginning at 7 p.m. nightly. The guest speaker will be Alben Gaston, Associate Pastor of Woodbridge Baptist Church in Mobile.
Beulah Camp meeting concludes tonight
Beulah Camp meeting will be June 14 – 24.
Beulah will celebrate 66 years with 10 days of preaching and singing. Services are at 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. each day.
Rooms and meals are available to anyone wanting to stay at the camp.
Zion Star AME family, friends day today
Zion Star AME Zion Church will be having its family and friends day program at 3 p.m. on June 24. Robert Shuford from Hayneville AME will bring the message.
Commission meeting slated for Monday
The Escambia County Commission will conduct an adjourned session on June 25 at 9 a.m. in the County Commission Chambers, Room 201, at the Escambia County Courthouse in Brewton. The Administrative Workshop will be held on June 21 at 9 a.m.
ACH GoldenCare seminar Wednesday
Atmore Community Hospital GoldenCare will present a seminar on services and programs available at the Lakeview Center June 27 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Mayson Auditorium.
People handle stresses of life in different ways. While some meet their challenges head-on, others may feel unable to cope.

Zion Star A.M.E Zion Church will hold Vacation Bible School from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on June 28.
This year's theme will be Your Safety Net.
New Home Church concert June 29
"The James Brown Trio" of Valley along with "New Direction" will be in concert at New Home Church near Monroeville on June 29. There will be no charge for admission, but a love offering will be received. The singing will begin at 7 p.m. and the Rev. Kenneth Johnson and Thomas Smith invite everyone to attend.
New Home Church is located just north of U.S. Highway 84 between Repton and Monroeville.
Martinville Baptist VBS June 30 only
Vacation Bible School will be held for one day only, June 30 at Martinville Baptist Church from 9 a.m. until noon.
Preschool through 6th grade students are invited to enjoy the Gospel programs and activities for four dynamic individuals from the Baptist Association's Summer Ministry youth group. A light lunch will be provided. From Atmore, take Hwy 21 north, go right on Martinville Loop or Martinville Circle and the church is on the right.

Jay Freedom Race slated July 4
Let Freedom Ring! And come run the Celebrate Freedom 5K Race in the small town of Jay, Fla. The race itself is best described as a low-key, very fun and friendly race.
The race will be July 4 at 6 p.m. The 5K will be first and the one mile to follow. The race will be held at Jay City Park. Registration will be held at 4:30 p.m. on the day of the race.

Christian Stewardship Seminar July 5-7
Atmore Apostolic Church will host a Christian Stewardship Seminar with the Rev. Brad Mayer of Buford, Ga. July 5-7 at 7 p.m. nightly.
In addition to the evening seminars, the Rev. Mayer will offer individual Christian Stewardship Workshop Sessions during the day on Saturday and Sunday by appointment only. There will be a limited number of appointments available. Only those attending the evening seminars will be eligible for the individual workshops. Brad Mayer is a public educator at Lanier Middle School in Buford, Ga., teaching 8th grade Social Studies to gifted students. He teaches stewardship classes at First Pentecostal Church of Buford and assists in coaching the Bible Quiz team. He travels extensively throughout the summer teaching stewardship seminars in various churches.
In addition to teaching the seminar and offering the individual workshop sessions, the Rev. Mayer will be ministering in the Sunday services at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on July 8.
Summer Reading continues until July 6
The Atmore Public Library is having their Summer Reading Program each Friday beginning June 1 through July 6 from 10 a.m until 11 a.m. for children ages 5-12.
Fiddlers Convention slated for July 21
Plans for the 28th annual Atmore Rotary Club Fiddlers Convention are under way.
The event will be held at 2 p.m. on July 21 in the Escambia County High School auditorium. The house band will be "Down Home."
The categories of competition are as follows: vocal groups (acappela is acceptable), bands, dobro, banjo, guitar, mandolin and fiddlers. There is no registration fee. Awards are first place $100, second $75 and third $50 except for fiddlers, which is first $1,000, second $200 and third $100.

Antioch Baptist food service ends Aug. 3
Antioch Baptist Church in Freemanville will be holding a summer food service program beginning June 6 through Aug. 3.
Meal times will be from 11:15 – 11:30. Activities include: volleyball, basketball, checkers and other games from 10 a.m. until noon.

Geography of the Holy Land Monday nights
The First Assembly of God Berean School of the Bible Study Center will begin a new study course on "Geography of the Holy Land" on Monday nights at 5:30.
The first class began May 7. This will be a four-week course. Anyone interested should call the church office at 368-4637.
Cost for the course is $122. There is an additional $20 charge for first time students.
Taste of the South scheduled for Aug. 11
The annual Taste of the South food festival will be held Aug. 11 at Heritage Park.

Swimming, tennis lessons offered
The pool at Tom Byrne Park is officially open for the summer. With its opening comes several events to keep you busy and cool during the hot months.
Public swimming on Sunday through Saturday from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Admission for public swimming is $1 for anyone 17 years old and younger and $1.50 for those 18 and older.
The pool is also available for rent for private parties on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Cost for pool rental is $35 per hour and that covers lifeguards and pool usage.
Day and night swimming lessons and tennis lessons are also available.
Day swimming and tennis lessons are available in two-week sessions and there are three time slots for the lessons.
Times available are 9 a.m. until 10 a.m., 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. and 11 a.m. until noon. The cost is $20 per session.
Registration day for session three is June 25 from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. and the session will be July 2-13.
Registration day for session four is July 9 from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. and the session will be July 16-27.
Night swimming lesson sessions will last three weeks and take place on Tuesday and Thursday nights at one of three times, 5:30 p.m. until 6 p.m., 6 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. The cost is $30 per session.
Registration day for session two is June 18 from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. and the session will be July 17-Aug. 2. Registration will continue the next day for all sessions until all classes are filled.
