A series of burglaries in the Atmore area within the past few weeks have kept officers with the Atmore Police Department on the go.
The department was notified of a burglary in the 200 block of Maxwell Street July 14 where they were informed that many furniture items had been taken from the residence. Officers arrested Judy Crenshaw James, who is being held at the Escambia County Detention Center, on July 24. Officers also recovered the items taken from the home and gave it back to the owner.
Another arrest was made July 17 when Sheila McGhee Caraway was apprehended by Alabama State Troopers near Evergreen for burglarizing three residents in the Atmore area. The three homes that Caraway is suspected of burglarizing are on Swift Mill Road, Escambia Street and Trammel Street. Several items were missing from each home after being burglarized. Atmore police recognized Caraway as the suspect of the crimes.
Caraway was detained for driving recklessly on Interstate 65 by an Alabama State Trooper.
Residents are not the only target for burglaries.
The Atmore Police Department was called to the 100 block of Patterson Street July 21 after a juvenile went home after visiting the Shell Station on North Main Street. The juvenile informed his mother that he had just been robbed by an adult male that was carrying a firearm.
The juvenile was walking behind Dean's Grill on North Main Street when the adult male jolted from the bushes and demanded money, according to the juvenile. Then, the adult male grabbed the juvenile by the neck and pushed him to the ground. The adult male took $16 from the juvenile's pants and ran away.
The Atmore Police Department has identified a suspect and a robbery first degree warrant has been signed. As of press time, the suspect has not been apprehended.
Also on July 21, Atmore Police Department received a 911 call stating that there had been a burglary complaint at the Shell Station on West Nashville Avenue.
An employee of the Shell Station made the call and informed police that a male suspect came into the station, paid the cashier $2 for gasoline that was pumped into the car he was riding in, took hold of the cash register and then stole $216. He then ran out on foot. The suspect was later identified as Brian Shane Marshall.
The vehicle Marshall was riding in left the Shell Station without him, but was later seen on McKenzie Drive by Atmore police. Ernest Dean Rolin Jr. was the driver of the car. Rolin was arrested after a brief foot chase.
Poarch Creek Tribal Police, Escambia County Sheriff's Office and the Alabama Department of Corrections Dog Tracking Team were called in to help in finding Marshall.
Marshall was later arrested by Poarch officers after he turned himself in to Poarch Creek Tribal Police.
Both Marshall and Rolin are being held at Escambia County Detention Center for robbery first degree.
