First Baptist Church of Atmore will be hosting a musical concert at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 5 that will bring the flowing melodies of Nathan Woodward's love of the saxophone to life.
Woodward is a 20-year-old alto and soprano saxophone player from Pascagoula, Miss. who now attends the University of Mobile. He has been playing the saxophone for several years and said that performing in churches is a lot of fun for him.
"Fortunately, I perform the most in churches," he said. "It makes it a lot more fun for me."
Woodward has never visited Atmore before, but is happy about the trip next weekend.
"This is my first time to be in the Atmore area," Woodward said. "I'm excited about coming to Atmore though."
Woodward has performed in many different areas across the Southeastern United States. He has been featured on several television and radio stations.
Woodward has said that he wants to play Kenny G type music, but only on a Christian level. After graduating from the University of Mobile, Woodward intends on going full time into the Christian music industry.
Woodward said he has not always wanted to perform in front of huge audiences, but that music is his destiny.
"I've always loved the concert atmosphere, but it wasn't like I was just dying to jump into an audience, it just kind of fell into place," he said. "I do enjoy it. Music is where I need to be heading."
Woodward's CD "Prayer of Language" features original arrangements of eight traditional and contemporary Christian songs including "Amazing Grace," the first song Woodward played solo in the sixth grade at First United Methodist Church of Pascagoula, Miss.
