The Escambia Academy varsity cheerleaders made history by placing second for the first time ever at the 2006 Alabama Independent School Association Universal Cheerleaders Association camp at Huntingdon College in Montgomery.
The 2007 squad did not place at the camp July 16-19, but they did receive a superior rating from the judges. The superior ranking comes from what the judges perceived during the camp as a whole.
"We are proud of all the girls," Annice Bruley, EA's cheer sponsor, said. "They have pulled together and we are getting ready for the football season."
The 2007-08 EA cheerleaders are, captain Courtney Bruley, co-captain Malori McGhee, Anna-Lisa McGhee, Sara Beth Davis, Alaina Arnold, Jordan Jaye, Kayleigh Miller and Andrea Nall.
Bruley said the reason for the superior ranking was simple.
"The girls worked hard all week and dedicated themselves to doing well," she said. "We have a group who love to cheer and dance."
Anna-Lisa McGhee and Arnold were named UCA All-Stars at the camp.
