County Commission will meet Aug. 13
The Escambia County Commission will conduct a regular session on Aug. 13 at 9 a.m. in the County Commission Chambers, Room 201, at the Escambia County Courthouse in Brewton.

Task forces arrests Kerry Hendrieth
According to a press release from the 21st Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force. Agents with the 21st Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force along with the Special Response Team from the Brewton Police Department carried out a search warrant at 561 Lewis Lane in Brewton Aug. 8 at the residence of Kerry "Shaky" Lamar Hendrieth.
The Drug Task Force found more than 50 grams of crack cocaine, approximately $500 in cash and also seized a 1987 Silverado Chevrolet pick-up and a 1997 Chevrolet Monte Carlo.
Hendrieth was arrested and taken to the Escambia County Detention Center and was charged with trafficking cocaine.

Stephanie Leavins to sing at My Father's
Stephanie Leavins will be singing at My Father's House Baptist Church, 801 E. Church St. Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.
Community Center hosts benefit program
The Holy Community Center at 300 Wilkerson Street will host a benefit program for Deacon William C. America on Aug. 18 at 7:30 p.m. with Bishop C. Wilson, pastor. Wanted are all choirs, soloists and groups and everyone is invited to attend.
Christian Care in need of groceries
Atmore Area Christian Care gave food to 69 people. We are running short on groceries now. We badly need the following: chicken and dumplings, self rising meal, self rising flour, sugar, canned potatoes, canned salmon, Jiffy Corn Meal mix, canned turnips or greens, crackers and mixed vegetables in the can. Thanks to the people and churches who help us with food and money.

ACH presents seminar Aug. 22
Atmore Community Hospital GoldenCare will present a seminar on the risks of stroke Aug. 22, beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Mayson Auditorium.
Registered Nurse and Stroke Coordinator Tammie Stefanko will provide education on stroke risk factors, signs and symptoms and prevention. According to the Centers for Disease Control, stroke is the third leading cause of death in the United States. Controlling and preventing high blood pressure, diabetes, and cholesterol as well as not smoking and maintaining a healthy weight are all active, preventive measures that men and women can take in reducing the risk of stroke.

First Assembly CPR classes Aug. 24
The CPR classes at Atmore First Assembly have been rescheduled to Aug. 24 from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. And Aug. 25 from 9 a.m. until 1. p.m.
The following information is the same:
Each class is a stand alone session and only one session is required. The class is ideal for mothers of young children, family members caring for chronically ill people in the home and others who might need to update their certification. American Legion selling Boston butts
The American Legion will be selling a variety of items for Labor Day on Aug. 31 beginning at 10 a.m.
Whole Boston butts will be sold for $25, barbeque plates will be sold for $6 and barbeque pork sandwiches and chips will be sold for $3. Those with tickets can come to the event from 10 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. and walk-ins are welcome after 11:45 a.m. as supplies last.

Legion hosts line dancing classes
Beginner country line dance classes start Sept. 6 from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the American Legion Hall at the intersection of Main and Church streets. The advance class is from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. For more information, call 368-8843 or 368-5769.
Fire Dept. hosting fun day Sept. 8
Friendship Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting its annual fun day on Sept. 8 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. There will be a smoke Boston butt sale, live entertainment, arts and crafts, a classic car show, door prizes, bake sale and raffle prizes. We will have lots of activities for the kids along with plenty of good food including BBQ sandwiches, chicken plates, hamburgers, hot dogs, french fries, sausage dogs and funnel cakes. This will be a great day of fun for the entire family.
All proceeds benefit the Friendship Volunteer Fire Department. If you are interested in a vendor booth for the festival, or need more information regarding the festival, contact either of these individuals as well.
This event will take place at the Pollard Town Hall, off Highway 31 between Flomaton and Brewton.
VFW hosts Friday night dances
Friday Night Dances at the VFW are open to the general public for a donation of $5 per participant. Country and soft rock music for dancing is provided by the VFW's FREEDOM BAND. If you like good, clean and safe fun, the VFW Post located at 206 West Ashley Street is the place to be on Friday nights from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. "Pot luck" finger food and suppers are scheduled occasionally in conjunction with the dances to add to the merriment.
Remember the VFW Post in Atmore is the place to be on Friday nights.
Concerned Citizens need uniforms
The Concerned Citizens of Atmore are asking all Atmore residents with old school uniforms to donate them to the group. The Annual School Uniform Recycle is taking place now.
All uniforms are laundered and given back to the community. For more information call Sandra Gray at 368-6023.
New classes for Health ministry
The Atmore First Assembly of God Congregational Health Ministry announces the following classes for this quarter:
Bible Study/Weight Management
Beginning July 30 at 5:30 p.m., the Atmore First Assembly is offering a Bible Study/Weight Management class. This class will run for at least eight weeks and a fee will be charged for the cost of the book. Interested persons may contact Louise Brogden 368-2728 or Diane Lassitter 368-8669.
Senior Adult Exercise Class
The Atmore First Assembly Senior Adults Celebration Group is offering a low impact exercise class each Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. The class works on balance, flexibility and stretching. Two-pound weights needed, but are not required. They are just suggested for additional strength building.
