The Northview Chiefs football team looks to rebound from their worst offensive performance of the 2007 season Friday at home.
The Chiefs (1-2) open district play against Holmes County (1-1) and NHS head coach Cody Keene said his team needs to get out of the rut they are in.
"We have not played well for the past two weeks," Keene said. "We had a poor effort last Friday against Walton, but we had a good day of practice Monday and our team knows we need this win."
A win for NHS would mean a 1-0 record in the district and Keene said that is the most important thing.
"We have told the guys that every game matters, but to have a chance to win the district we need to get that first win," Keene said. "And Bonifay is very capable of beating us. But we hope to mentally play well this week because that is something we did not do last week."
NHS will have to improve on some things to succeed in the district opener.
"We need to do a better job blocking and tackling as a team," Keene said. "On defense we need to do a better job of stopping the other team on third down and on offense we need to execute our game plan. We will have to play with a passion on both sides of the ball."
Keene said the entire team has to step up this week.
"We have to get that intensity back," he said. "And we need people to come out and support us."
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Bratt.
