Atmore resident upset over Bush's veto of SCHIP bill
Just as they promised, the Republicans in Congress mustered enough votes to uphold President Bush's veto of the SCHIP authorization bill. They have given Bush the opportunity to crow that he is "relevant" (his new favorite word).
Seventy-one percent of the American people wanted this veto overridden. More than two thirds of the U.S. Senate wanted it overridden. Public service organizations as diverse as AARP and the YMCA had spoken in favor of the override. But 'Emperor George' needed to feel "relevant" so he broke his promise (what's one more?) to support strengthening SCHIP, and his lackeys fell in line as they always do. But did you notice that they are getting fewer?
Many Republicans are finally getting the message that following George isn't always such a good idea. It doesn't take a genius to see that Bush is done. Term limited. No more elections. But Congressmen are not so lucky; they will face the voters next year, with a legacy of loving war and hating America's poor and middle class families. Throwing away money and American lives in an intractable civil war in Iraq, with no end in sight, but getting all fiscally conservative, when it comes to spending a relative pittance for our kids' health care.
Josiah Bonner and the rest of Bush's puppets need to be ashamed. They need to be embarrassed. And they need to be voted out of office.
