Prepare for fall severe weather
Officials from the Alabama Emergency Management Agency (AEMA) and the Alabama National Weather Service offices want to urge residents of Alabama to start thinking about a severe weather preparedness plan.
Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007 was Fall Severe Weather Awareness Day. This was a good time for families and businesses to start thinking about a plan of action before severe weather strikes. In the last six years, the residents of Alabama have been faced with either tornadoes or severe thunderstorms in the months of November and December. Last October, three tornado warnings, two tornado watches and one severe thunderstorm warning were issued throughout Alabama. Fortunately no severe damage was reported.
"Planning ahead could save your life," said AEMA Director Bruce P. Baughman. "It's important for Alabamians to not only have a plan, but they must exercise it."
