The Northview Chiefs and the Walton Braves battled on the hardwood Dec. 4, with Walton coming away with a close 58-56 victory on the road.
The two teams were knotted at 40-40 after three quarters and the lead changed hands six times in the final quarter. The Chiefs had three players in double digits, but could not pull out the win.
Nakita Myles led the Chiefs (1-3, 0-1 FHSAA Class 3A, District 1) with 17 points. Vincent Longmire and Tarus Thomas each added 14 points. Farrin Jackson contributed 8 points and James Lewis had 3 points.
NHS held a 54-51 lead late in the fourth quarter after a steal and score by Longmire, but Walton tied the score with one minute to go and pulled ahead for good shortly after.
NHS head coach Leonard White had no comment following the loss.
T.R. Miller 81 Chiefs 53
The Chiefs traveled to Brewton Nov. 30 for a game against the T.R. Miller Tigers and did not have a good game, losing 81-53.
The Tigers held a 37-15 halftime advantage, but the second half was better for NHS. Miller outscored the Chiefs 44-38 in the second half.
Myles led the scoring with 15 points. Thomas added 14 points. Jackson had 7 points, Lewis had 6 points, Cordaryl Lowery had 5 points, Jay Jackson had 3 points and Longmire had 2 points.
Chiefs 54 W.S. Neal 51
The Chiefs trip to East Brewton Nov. 27 was more of a positive experience for the team, as they won their first game of the season, 54-51.
The Chiefs outscored the W.S. Neal Eagles 13-10 in the first quarter, but were down 34-30 at the end of the first half. The Chiefs tied the score at 38-38 by the end of the third quarter and scored 16 points to W.S. Neal's 13 points in the fourth quarter for the win.
Myles again led the charge, with 11 points. Farrin Jackson had 10 points, Longmire added 6 points, Lowery and Lewis contributed 2 points apiece and Jay Jackson had 1 point.
Flomaton 66 Chiefs 57
The opening game of the season was a tough one for the Chiefs, as they lost 66-57 on the road against Flomaton High School.
Longmire exploded for 25 points and Myles had 18 points to account for 75 percent of the team's points on the night. Thomas added 10 points, Jay Jackson had 3 points and Farrin Jackson contributed 1 point. The Chiefs opened the game with a 27-25 lead at halftime, but were down 44-38 after the third quarter and 66-57 at the end of the game.
The Chiefs faced South Walton Friday night in a district battle and the results will be in an upcoming Advance. Up next for NHS is another district game against Catholic Dec. 14 in Bratt.
