Atmore All-Stars fall by 1 in championship

Despite out hitting their opponent 15-5, the Atmore All-Stars suffered a one-point loss to the Tri-County All-Stars in the championship game of the 8U All-Star tournament Tuesday night at Bradberry Park in Walnut Hill, Fla.,

Even with the championship loss, both Atmore and Tri-County will advance to the state tournament Friday, June 22, in Cottage Hill.

In the championship game Tuesday night, the two teams got off to a fast start as they each scored three runs in the first inning to go into the second inning tied at 3-all.

After a scoreless second inning for both teams, Tri-County took a 5-3 lead after plating two runs in the bottom of the third inning.

Atmore would cut the lead to 5-4 with one run in the top of the fourth inning, but neither team would score the remainder of the game as Atmore took the loss by one.

Tri-County’s three runs in the first inning came off two Atmore errors.

Talan Daughtry had two singles in the loss for Atmore while Gavin Snow and Chaston Helton had a single each.

Chasen Wynn had two singles and Caeden Battle added a single in the loss.

Caleb Davis had a double and two singles while Josh Burkett added two singles. Nadaulon Steele had a single and Ty’Derian Pettway had two singles.

Daughtry, Snow, Helton and Davis scored Atmore’s four runs.
