On Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, Northview High School's Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and football team sponsored a roadblock at the corner of Highway 21 and Highway 4 to benefit Head Football Coach David Williams in his fight against cancer.
Sadly, over the Christmas holidays, Coach Williams was diagnosed with colon cancer. Due to the costly expenses of his treatment and the Williams' current inability to work, Northview High School pulled together and organized repeated fund-raisers to help the Williams family in this time of need.
The participation and support of volunteers during the roadblock was overwhelming and exciting. Approximately 100 Northview students attended the event. In seven hours, the community gathered together and raised over $3,000 – three times the amount hoped.
The FCA would like to extend our appreciation to those who helped us in our endeavor: CVS Pharmacy, Conoco, Century Bait and Tackle Shop, Burger King, Bondurant, The Panhandle Restaurant and Gas Station, and the many people who gave what they had with an open heart.
Last but not least, thanks be to God for His grace and mercy. Without Him, nothing would be possible.
Thanks for all the countless prayers that went up for the health of Coach Williams and for the success of this event. Every person involved played a vital part and without him or her, nothing could have happened. To all these people, we are truly grateful.
God bless!
