Dorothy Taylor has always been working for others in the restaurant business, but has now decided to open up a caf/ of her very own where Atmore area residents will be able to enjoy home-cooked meals without having to touch an oven.
Taylor will open the doors of The Anchor Caf/, located at 112 W. Ridgeley St., hopefully within the next month, she said.
Taylor said The Anchor Caf/ will serve a “regular breakfast,” including grits, eggs and homemade biscuits.
There will be a plate lunch. A small serving size will include two vegetables, a meat, a dessert and a drink. A large serving size will include three vegetables, a meat, a dessert and a drink.
Taylor said although she’s never owned her own restaurant, she has been working in area restaurants for a long time.
Taylor said she chose the name “The Anchor Caf/” for a nostalgic reason.
Taylor will be cooking all the food at The Anchor Caf/ and her daughter Frances Burkett will be the waitress. Taylor’s other daughter, Becky Hopper, will work at the restaurant during the weekends.
The hours of The Anchor Caf/ are unknown, but Taylor said she knows she will open up around 5 a.m. in order to feed hungry breakfast lovers before they must go to work.
