Joseph Herman Findley
WALNUT HILL, Fla. - Mr. Joseph Herman Findley, 96, of Walnut Hill, Fla. died Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.
Mr. Findley was born in Brooklyn to Henry Davis and Ollie Thames Findley. He was a member of the Walnut Hill community since 1999, coming from Century, where he worked for Alger Sullivan as a night watchman. Mr. Findley is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Esther Mae Findley; his son, Carlton Findley; his daughter, Elsie Housman; his granddaughter, Sandra Marie Hunt and an infant grandson, Joseph Findley.
Survivors include, son, Alvin Winston Findley of Orange Park, Fla.; daughter, Joyce (Mark) Harrison of Walnut Hill, Fla.; daughter-in-law, Ruth (Wilbur) Graves of Flomaton; brother, Albert Findley of Foley; sisters, Mabel Brantley and Gladys Blackmon, both of Brewton; 10 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2008 at Flomaton Funeral Home with the Rev. G.W. Birdsong and the Rev. Wilbur Graves officiating. Interment followed in the Pleasant Home Holiness Church cemetery. Visitation was held from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2008 at the Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel. Pallbearers were Jason Findley, Jon Findley, Robert Warr, Bill Blackmon, David Brantley and Gary Brantley.
James William “J.W.” Lowery
FLOMATON - Mr. James William “J.W.” Lowery, 84, passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at a Santa Rosa County Hospital.
Mr. Lowery was a native of Century, Fla. and a lifelong resident of Flomaton. He was a true friend, a veteran of WWII in the Pacific theatre and attended the Gonzalez Baptist Church.
Survivors include, two daughters, Vickie and Cecil Soto of Hurley, Miss. and Nancy and Mike Wedgeworth of Flomaton; five grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; two brothers, Charlie and Voncile Lowery Jr. of Pensacola, Fla. and Russell and Betty Lowery of Molino, Fla.; a sister, Dot and Edgar Croley of Century, Fla. and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2008 at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Keese officiating. Burial followed at Flomaton cemetery. Visitation was held from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2008 at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Harvey Kelley, Frank Johnson, Clifford Lowery, Wayne Johnson, Wesley Lowery, Mikey Wedgeworth and B.J. Ward.
Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes, LLC was in charge of directing the services.
Alma V. Chason
HUXFORD - Mrs. Alma V. Chason, 83, died at her residence in Huxford.
Mrs. Chason was born July 7, 1924 to Hillary H. and Vashti Ada Lomax Hicks. Mrs. Chason was a retired nurse from Atmore Community Hospital and was a member of the Huxford Baptist Church.
Her husband, Clarence M. Chason, preceded her in death.
Survivors include, three sons, Jimmie Vickery of Montgomery, Tommie (Julie) Chason of California and Paul (Denise) Chason of Bratt, Fla.; one daughter, Patricia Darlene Chason (Arthur) Levins of Bratt, Fla.; four brothers, Hubbard Hicks of Chicago, Charles Hicks of Macon, Ga., Sydney Hicks of Modesto, Calif. and Willie Hicks of Daphne; six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 31, 2008 from the Huxford Baptist Church with the Rev. Greg Sayler officiating. Burial will follow in the Huxford Baptist Church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. service time Monday, March 31, 2008 at the Church.
Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
Ellis Estell Washington
POLLARD - Mrs. Ellis Estell Washington, 79, of Pollard died Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Fla. Viewing will be held from noon until the 2 p.m. funeral hour at St. Peters Baptist Church in Pollard.
Christian Memorial Funeral Home of Atmore will be directing.
