Atmore's Relay for Life will be held April 26 and I sincerely hope area residents will rise to the occasion, raising a ton of money for the American Cancer Society.
I think it is great that Atmore's Relay for Life helps raise money for the American Cancer Society. I have personally lost someone to cancer and have seen how horrible the disease can get and I think anything that raises even a little bit of money for cancer research is awesome.
I am proud of all those people who plan on going out and walking at the Relay for Life event and those who are sponsoring the event, thanks to people like you cancer patients have a chance at survival.
I know that I am going to be out of town on Relay day, but I hope to do my part beforehand helping co-chairs Deborah Camp and Becky Ganey with a special project this year. Hopefully area residents will enjoy this project because a lot of hard work and effort will be put into it.
For everyone else who has prior engagements on actual Relay day, there are other things you can do to help raise money! There is a 'Mystery Dinner,' a 'Walk Across Atmore' event and what I think will be the most entertaining is the 'Paint the Town Purple' competition. With all the competitive people in this town, I have a feeling it is going to look like it's rained purple ribbon all over Atmore.
On a lighter note, The Atmore Advance recently published its Kindergarten tab and I have thoroughly enjoyed reading all of the things the youngsters of this town want to be when they grow up. It seems like there are going to be a lot of police officers, teachers and princesses when these children grow into adults. I actually met a couple of the kids to take their picture for the tab and they are truly a delight. I have to say that my favorite answer in the K-tab was that one student wanted to be a police officer because they get to eat a lot of doughnuts. I personally found that to be hilarious!
For those who don't know, Mayfest is coming up. I will actually get to attend Mayfest this year and I am excited about that. Last year's Mayfest was my first one in Atmore and I was in a wedding that day, so I did not get to attend. But, from what I have heard it is an event to be excited about in Atmore!
It is hard to believe that this time last year Atmore was prepping for its Centennial celebration. Now Atmore's almost 101 years old!
With all of the things going on, nobody can say they are bored right now!
One more thing before I leave you all this week. To all the students going on a spring break vacation next week – have fun because when you get old like me you don't get to have a week off work with all your buddies! But, also remember to be very careful!!
