Members of Atmore’s Kappa League were out and about in the community Friday afternoon spreading the word about voter registration and the importance of casting a ballot for elections at all levels of government during their 2012 “Get out and Vote” campaign.
Escambia County High School Principal Zickeyous Byrd, who founded the local chapter, said the league members began on Martin Luther King Avenue in Atmore and slowly made their way through town, going door to door reminding people of the importance of voting and helping to educate residents of proper voting procedures and the process for registering to vote.
Kappa League members encouraged people to vote for, not only the presidential election, which will be held in November of this year, but also municipal elections. Atmore’s municipal elections will be held Tuesday, Aug. 28 and will ultimately choose a new mayor and possibly four new city councilmen, as only one of the five seats is unopposed.
