Throughout the month of June, the American Red Cross has hosted its “Heroes” campaign in Atmore in order to raise money in case disaster strikes. Friday and Saturday volunteers bagged groceries as a part of the campaign and Atmore’s American Red Cross board member Pam Martin said it was a success.
Martin said the two grocery stores that allowed the Red Cross to come in and hold this fundraising event deserve a pat on the back.
Martin said the organization appreciates Winn-Dixie manager Erik Patterson and Southern Family Markets manager Alvin Brown.
Different individuals volunteered to bag groceries during the two-day event. There were containers sitting on the counters as they bagged for people to drop donations in for the American Red Cross.
Atmore American Red Cross director Joan Hackman said the event not only raised money for a good cause, but it was also a good time.
Hackman said although the work was not easy, it still made for a great day.
The “Heroes” campaign has been a part of Atmore for the month of June. It is a fundraising campaign and Atmore’s goal was to raise at least $10,000.
There will be one more event that will benefit the American Red Cross. The organization will sell snow cones at Unity in the Community day this weekend at Houston Avery Park. All money raised in Atmore stays in Atmore.
