Barbeque, swimming, firecrackers and more. That is what the Fourth of July is all about. However, there are many safety precautions to follow while celebrating Independence Day this Friday.
According to Atmore Fire Department chief Gerry McGhee fireworks can be a fun, but hazardous form of entertainment.
McGhee shares some safety dos and don’ts about fireworks for the Fourth.
McGhee said it is legal to set off fireworks inside city limits, but there is actually nowhere to purchase them.
The Poarch Band of Creek Indians will host their annual fireworks show Friday night at 9 p.m. Festivities will begin at 8 p.m. with a short musical presentation and a veteran’s salute. The event will be held at PCI’s Rodeo Arena.
Fireworks are not the only safety issue with the Fourth. Alabama State Troopers urge individuals traveling for the holiday to use precaution.
Troopers will be on the prowl as a “visible reminder” to drive safely.
