Charles A. McDuffie
ATMORE – Mr. Charles A. McDuffie, 58, passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 in Atmore.
Mr. McDuffie was a native of Semmes, a resident of Atmore for the past 28 years and attended the Friendly Holiness Church. His son, Eric McDuffie, preceded him in death.
Survivors include, his wife, Linda Kay McDuffie of Atmore; his son, Derrick McDuffie of Atmore; two daughters, Tawana and Kevin McGhee of Atmore and Dana McDuffie of Atmore; four grandchildren, Courtney McGhee, Kennedy McGhee, Kyleigh McKinzie and a devoted granddaughter, Stacey McDuffie; seven brothers, Eugene and Genie McDuffie of Semmes, Jerry and Sandy McDuffie of Mobile, Larry and Kathy McDuffie of Atmore, Randy and Deloies McDuffie of Hurley, Miss., Horace and Libby McDuffie of Mobile, Danny and Kathy McDuffie of George County, Miss. and Everette and Barbara McDuffie of Mobile; three sisters, Mary and Jerry Havens of George County, Miss., Linda and Bobby Thompson of George County, Miss. and Thelma and Bill Williamson of Mobile and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 5 at the Friendly Holiness Church with the Rev. Ray Ward and the Rev. David Bryars officiating. Burial followed at New Home Cemetery.
Pallbearers were his nephews, Eric McDuffie, Wesley McDuffie, Jeremy McDuffie, Chris McDuffie, Mark McDuffie and Gerald Ray Havens. Honorary pallbearers were Greg McDuffie, his devoted nephew who was like a brother and Donnie Williamson, Michael McDuffie, Preston Havens, Brian Havens, Robert Rigby, Adam Hadley, Steven Aplin and Robbie McDuffie.
Visitation was held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, July 4 at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
William R. Cobb
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - William R. Cobb, 83, of Santa Barbara, Calif. died March 19, 2008 at his residence in Santa Barbara. He was retired from American Arabian Oil Co.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Rufus and Nan Cobb and one sister, Linda Cobb Bodtke.
Survivors include, one daughter, Bonnie Jean Cobb of Reeds, Mo.; one brother, Ty Cobb; one sister, Nanette Cobb Shell and two brother-in-laws, Howard Shell and Ryan Bodtke, all of Atmore.
Private interment was held by Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home of Atmore.
Ruth Udell Abner
ATMORE – Mrs. Ruth Udell Abner, 85, of Atmore died July 2, 2008 at her residence after an extended illness. She was a native of Wilcox County and had lived in Atmore for most of her life. She had worked as a nurse’s aid for Dr. Wilson’s office and at the hospital. She had attended school at the Lutheran School in Atmore.
She leaves to cherish her memories, four daughters, Johnnie Mae Dickerson, Gloria Marshall and Laura J. Pettway, all of Atmore and Joann Ramsey of Selma; three sons, the Rev. Dan Abner of Atmore, John H. Abner Jr. and Wiley C. Abner, both of Detroit, Mich.; 27 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church with the Rev. Benjamin Stallworth, pastor, officiating. Interment will be held in the Lucious Cemetery in Atmore.
Public viewing will be held from 2 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at the funeral home and her body will lie instate at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Turner Funeral Chapel, LLC. of Atmore will be directing.
Sim C. Jackson
STANLEY CROSSROADS – Sim C. Jackson, 91, a longtime resident of Stanley Crossroads and recently of Huntsville, passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2008. Mr. Jackson’s parents, Harvey and Dora Jackson; sisters, Lois Hobbs and Lavert Caldwell and brothers, Curtis and Fonza, preceded him in death.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 7 at Magnolia Cemetery in Brewton.
Patricia Lee Young
ATMORE – Patricia Lee Young, 60, passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 after a valiant three-year battle with ovarian cancer. She was a kind and loving daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. She took pride in her family and had only unconditional love for them.
She leaves behind, her mother, Johnnie M. Lee of Atmore; her husband, C.W. “Dub” Young III of Monroeville; her son, Daniel Park Young of Chipley, Fla. and her grandson, Ryan Aiden Young of Chipley, Fla. She was a lifelong member of the Canoe Methodist Church in Canoe.
Pat did not want a lengthy service to mark her departure from this earth. She wanted no sad songs and would rather you celebrate her life and remember her as a person that enjoyed life, even in sickness and loved those around her. She valued her friendships greatly.
Visitation was held at Johnson Funeral Home in Monroeville on July 5, 2008 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. There will be a second visitation in Atmore at Atmore Memorial Chapel on Sunday, July 6, 2008 at 2 p.m. with the service at 3 p.m. Burial will follow at the Freewill Cemetery in Canoe. Johnson Funeral Home of Monroeville in charge of all arrangements.
