Atmore falls 11-5

Atmore’s 11-year-old Cal Ripken All-Stars were defeated by Tillman’s Corner (gray) 11-5 on July 15 in Alex City on the championship day at the Cal Ripken state tournament.
Manager Tim McAnally said Atmore jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after Tristan McAnally led off the inning with a single. McAnally hit 3-for-3 at the plate with three singles, but was only able to score one run.
Coby and Tanner Smith were the other runners to score in the first inning with C. Smith reaching base via fielder’s choice and T. Smith getting a base-on-balls.
Dalton Simmons reached base after being walked and was advanced by Brodie Amos’ single. They were eached advanced by J.P. Sawyer and scored off of Jonathan Griffis’ single.
McAnally said the team did everything they could and had solid pitching, but some defensive mistakes hurt.
T.C. (gray) took the lead in the fourth inning 6-3 and never looked back scoring five runs in the last inning to make the final 11-5.
McAnally said that all the players did a great job representing the City of Atmore and he hopes they get the same chance next year.
He added that the parents did a good job of cheering the team as well as the coaches.

Alex City 3
Atmore’s 11-year-old Cal Ripken All-Star team whipped Alex City 9-3 on July 14 in Alex City at the Cal Ripken state tournament.
Coby Smith, Trey Weeks and Tanner Smith all had a big first inning for Atmore.
C. Smith who hit 1-for-3 on the day and scored two runs legged out a double and was knocked in by Weekes’ home run.
T. Smith followed Weekes’ with another home run to make the score 3-0 for Atmore early.
Smith hit another home run in the fifth inning, which also saw Trey McGhee, Brodie Amos and J.P Sawyer score runs.
Sawyer hit 4-for-4 in the game and score two runs in the huge victory for Atmore.

Monrovia 0
Atmore’s 11-year-old Cal Ripken All-Stars picked up their efforts in the second day of the Cal Ripken state tournament as they defeated Monrovia 3-0 on July 13.
Tristan McAnally started the offense for Atmore hitting a home run in the second inning that a scored J.P. Sawyer as well. McAnally hit 2-fo-3 on the day with a double and a home run.
Sawyer reached base after being hit by a pitch.
Coby Smith had two hits on the day with a double and single while scoring one run for Atmore. Smith scored via a single by Tanner Smith in the third inning.

Atmore’s 11-year-old Cal Ripken All-Star team had a rough second game at the Cal Ripken state tournament as Tillman’s Corner (blue) routed them 12-1.
Atmore’s only run was scored by Tristan McAnally in the first inning. McAnally hit two singles in the loss.
Jonathan Griffis was the only other Atmore player to register a hit for the 11-year-old team.

Sylacauga 4
Atmore’s 11-year-old Cal Ripken All-Stars delivered a crushing defeat to Sylacauga 16-4 on July 12 in the Cal Ripken state tournament in Alex City.
Tristan McAnally started the hitting barrage in the first inning notching a single. McAnally hit 2-for-4 on the day with two singles and scored two runs.
Coby Smith advanced McAnally with a single and had two hits on the day and scored three runs.
Tanner Smith reached base through a walk and scored off Brodie Amos’ single.
Smith had a 2-for-3 day at the plate with two home runs, a walk and scored three runs for Atmore while Amos hit two singles and scored one run for Atmore.
Trey Weekes hit a single and legged out a double in the victory scoring three runs in the process.
Nate Smith and Jonathan Griffis had hits and scored runs for the Atmore All-Stars.
J.P. Sawyer scored late in the game for Atmore.
