Getting ready for football

Football season is just around the corner and I am getting pumped.
For those of you who have read my previous football columns, you already know that I don’t know much about the sport. But, I do find it entertaining to watch people run around doing something they love and getting enthused when they do something good.
This year’s first Alabama game will be fun. I will be sure to watch on ABC the Tide play against Clemson in their first game.
I have a feeling I have a lot of football to learn this upcoming season. Considering I am getting married to a sports editor of a newspaper in April, I think I will be getting schooled each week on the rules of the sport. There will be high school games that I will probably attend with Matt, my fiance, each week. I will also watch college games on TV Saturdays, if I am not at one. And Sunday will be packed with professional football.
High school and college football I grasp a little bit better than the NFL. But, Matt is a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
Some of you probably remember the column I wrote last year about my pink Hines Ward jersey. In fact, every time I see Atmore Fire Department assistant chief Mike Staples he pokes fun at me because of it.
Nevertheless, I will bust out that jersey on Sundays, wearing it proudly as I root for the Steelers. I am hoping that Matt can teach me a little about the sport so I can cheer because I know what is going on, not because everyone else is.
I hope all the area teams, Escambia Academy, Escambia County High School and Northview High School do well this upcoming football season. And I of course want my alma mater, T.R. Miller High School to do great also. A true alumnus is always a fan of where they graduated from. Not to mention, my brother-in-law is a coach at Miller.
And being an alumnus from The University of Alabama also, Roll Tide! I hope Auburn does well too, since Matt is an Auburn grad.
On an entirely different note, I met the new administrator for Atmore Community Hospital Monday. I attended a press conference at ACH Monday that allowed me to meet Bill Perkins, the new administrator. Mr. Perkins seems like a great person and although I am sure the community will hate to see Bob Gowing, administrator of ACH for 10 years, leave, I think the hospital will remain in good hands.
