Surprising turn of events

This week’s Chandler’s Chatter is going to take a change of pace and move away from sports.
I had an opportunity this weekend to attend two events that I normally would not cover and from the start I assumed I would not have a good time.
Well you know what they say about assumptions don’t you?
First, Saturday morning I got ready and headed to Brewton to attend the Greater Escambia Council for Arts (GECA) production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
Musicals and plays have never been my favorite thing and unless I have a friend or family member starring in it, I refuse to go.
So as anyone not looking forward to something I put on my best frown and dragged my feet to W.S. Neal High School.
The acting was good, the song and dance numbers were even better and it seemed like the whole experience did not take more than 30 minutes.
All in all it made my afternoon of work into a very fun day even with the rain that tried to dampen the day.
After the performance I had some time to waste before my next event so I went and ate at the World of Wings eatery and caf/.
That was a great part of my day because the food was delicious and curbed the starving feeling I felt.
So anyone who has not had the opportunity to eat there should definitely take the chance.
Now getting back to the topic at hand, I then made my way to Jefferson Davis Community College to attend the 2009 Escambia County Junior Miss Program. Another event that I just could not make myself smile about because I just it is just not my idea of a fun Saturday night.
Do not take that the wrong way because I know people all over the country probably feel differently and I can understand that.
Well the program started off like any other program I have been too and did not immediately grab my attention. But upon seeing the fitness routine the young ladies had to do changed my mind and got me watching the show while I took pictures.
Then seeing the talent portion of the competition and the other dance routines they displayed, I was impressed by the amount of work they had obviously put into preparing for it all.
Again I came away impressed by something I would have never seen myself doing on a Saturday night.
All week I had looked forward to finally being able to stop by Flomaton Speedway and meeting the people I have spoken with or the drivers I write about and dreaded the other two events.
The races got rained out and I think it was all to teach me an important lesson. That lesson I learned being that you never to knock something until you try it.
So here’s a pat on the back to all the performers from Saturday whether you sang a song, did a dance or just had a few lines, you really showed me something this weekend and I am glad you did.
