U.S. Rep. Jo Bonner visited Atmore on Monday morning for a town hall meeting to discuss issues that are of interest to citizens in the area.
Energy independence, social security and the popular Tanker project were the topics of discussion during the congressman’s visit.
Bonner took questions for an hour and explained his thoughts or stance on each question.
Bonner first addressed a question on the future of social security and why the government is afraid to do anything to address the problems it poses.
Energy became a fixture in the discussion because of high gas prices and how it could affect local businesses.
Chuck Stevens Chevrolet general manager Chad Bartz expressed to the congressman that the increase in fuel prices has significantly dropped the number of automobiles being sold by his dealership and others like it.
Bonner answered Bartz and said to the crowd that the national legislature and state governments are trying to do things to curb the need of oil from other countries.
As with the visit from U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions, a hot topic of interest was the contract for the Air Force tanker.
Bonner approached the subject with enthusiasm and told the crowd how he thinks the bid will turn out.
He said just like the automobile industry has flourished in Alabama the aerospace industry would probably do the same.
