Jefferson Lamar McGehee, 59, died Saturday March 17, 2001, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
A native of Marianna, Fla., Mr. McGehee was the son of Adene Lewis McGehee of Lexington, S. C. and the late Jefferson Lamar McGehee. He was vice president of Frontier Corporation of Rochester, N. Y. at the time of his retirement in 1999. His telephone career began at the family-owned West Florida Telephone Company in Marianne where he was vice president and general manager. He also served as president and general manager of Southland Telephone Company in Atmore. He was past president of the Florida Telephone Association and the Alabama-Mississippi Telephone Association. He was a past director of the Minnesota High Technology Council in Minneapolis, Minn. In 1999, he was named to the Florida Telecommunications Industry Association Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Beazley McGehee; two sons, Jefferson Joseph McGehee of Greenville. S. C. and Austin Lewis McGehee of Greer, S. C.; two daughters, Jo Anna McGehee of Durham, N. C. and Shelley Ann McGehee of Greer; his mother, Adene L. McGehee of Lexington,; two brothers, Michael Lewis McGehee of Red Springs, N. C. and R. Daniel McGehee of Chapin, S. C. and his nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held in Mariann on Wednesday, March, 2l at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church.
Donation in the name of Mr. McGehee may be made to First United Methodist Church – Atmore organ fund, Men's Club or building fund or to United Methodist Childrens Home in Selma.
