Atmore Christian School defeated Christian Collegiate Academy in three straight sets for one of their biggest wins of the season, all while on the road.

Head coach Michelle Yoder estimated is was the best the team has played all season, being particularly strong on defense.

Grace Kilcrease got the team started in the right direction with solid serving. The team had a 5-0 lead at the beginning and built it up to 13-2.

Christian Collegiate came alive at this point in the night. However, the Lady Rams continued to have excellent defense and played evenly to get the 25-15 win in the first set.

The team started the second game slowly, getting behind 1-6 mostly due to hitting errors and some great attacks by Christian Collegiate. The Lady Rams remained determined and continued with their hustle. Behind the good serving of senior Narisa Wiggins, the team managed to come away with a 25-17 win in the second set.

In the third game, the score went back and forth between the two teams. With the game tied 15-15, Yoder called a time out to refocus her team. The strategy worked, as they got a side out and Aimee Jurjevich and Hannah Ziglar put big serves in to finish the set 25-20 and give the Lady Rams the overall game 3-0.

Grace Kilcrease and Brianna Pearson had five kills apiece, Narisa Wiggins followed with three and Charity Hall had two.  Hannah Ziglar had seven ace serves, Kelsey Baker managed to get six, Narisa Wiggins had five, and Grace Kilcrease finished with three.

“The girls displayed better team effort than I’ve seen all season,” Yoder said. “It was great to see them playing up to their potential. Every player on the floor hustled and contributed to the win.”

ACS now has an overall 3-4 record with a 3-2 conference record. Their next game is at home agaisnt East Hill Christian on Thursday, Sept. 20. It is a Varsity-only match and begins at 5 p.m.

The JV also picked up another win 2-0; 25-13, 25-13. Kaylynn Swartzentruber led the way with eight ace serves and four kills. Kelsey Baker chipped in four aces and a kill. Lauren Metzler had three aces serves. The JV now has an overall 3-3 record with a 2-2 conference record. Their next game is Tuesday, Sept. 25 at Central Christian.
